David Alvarez
Director, District Support Services

David Alvarez manages and coordinates Southern California office and other activities of Total School Solutions (TSS). He is responsible for leading and coordinating project teams, serving on DAIT and SAIT teams, providing leadership coaching and training, facilitating board-superintendent relationships, contributing in organizational studies and analysis, and offering other quality services and assistance to our clients.

Prior to joining TSS, Mr. Alvarez has served as a superintendent for over 20 years in rural, urban, elementary and unified school districts throughout California. He began serving as a superintendent at age 34 and has had a variety of experiences, which have supported his accomplishments and achievements in every district. He has served in many different capacities during his career in public education, starting as a custodian while working himself through college, a high school counselor, a high school principal, Assistant Superintendent, and other administrative positions which have shaped his leadership style.

Mr. Alvarez’s strong leadership, vision, and passion for academic achievement have served the children in his districts well. As a result of his leadership, every school in his last school district increased their API (Academic Performance Index) score by over 100 points. The district’s continuation high school was the first continuation school in the State of California to exit Program Improvement. In addition, one junior high school exited Program Improvement.

Mr. Alvarez understands, from his experience as a school district superintendent, the value of quality and responsive services for our clients. He strives to address their needs by coordinating the tremendous talent pool TSS possesses.

Mr. Alvarez earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from California State University, San Bernardino.
