Safe Harbor to Exit Program Improvement

How to be Intentional and Accelerate Achievement for All Students

This workshop is intended for elementary educators and the district administrators responsible for elementary schools. It may also be beneficial for middle school educators. However, it is not designed to address the needs of high school educators.

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 provides an alternate method for meeting subgroup proficiency targets that are escalating quickly toward 100 percent in 2013-14. Understanding and focusing on Safe Harbor guidelines makes sense as a way to improve learning opportunities for all students and to say goodbye to Program Improvement sanctions.

Getting out of Program Improvement and into Safe Harbor is simple. This workshop will help you:

  • Make a commitment to deal with problems instead of just identify them;
  • Create teacher accountability;
  • Provide the support needed to make that accountability attainable;
  • Use data transparently;
  • Provide quality instruction to your student;
  • Celebrate your success.

Are you doing what you have always done, or are you willing to do whatever it takes to help your students reach their goals?

  • Learn to motivate students to do their very best and to embrace the testing process.
  • Learn to create a norm of data transparency to support the PLC process.
  • Learn how to support the "turn around process", create the need for change, support your teachers in the change process, make your school vision clear, and reach your goal of exiting PI.
  • Learn how to use "simple data" to focus teachers on individual student needs, drive instruction, engage students in their own success, and increase parent partnerships.
  • Learn how to know who the students are who will most likely help you reach your goal of exiting PI.
  • Look at "interim assessments" (benchmark), and how they guide instructional priorities.
  • Learn how to use "Blue Prints" and "Released Questions" as an integral part of the instructional process.
  • Use "test chats" to motivate teachers, students, and parents.
